FET Colleges
Further Education and Training (FET) refers to career-oriented education and training offered at technical colleges, community colleges and private colleges. The Tectura Group designed 16 FET colleges throughout South Africa, with almost all of them completed.
The proposal for the FET Colleges takes a radical new look at how education can be delivered in a learning environment designed for the 21st century. The courtyard design of the structures allows for various environmental benefits including natural lighting and passive ventilation. This not only aided in improving the education experience, but also reduce overall running costs as well. The large roof overhangs and bespoke sun-shading devices protect the buildings from excessive heat gain while giving the blocks a modern, contemporary feel.
Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST)
In the recent past, Tectura designed and supervised to completion, a brand-new university; - Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).
The Botswana International University of Science and Technology is a research-intensive University that specializes in Engineering, Science and Technology at both undergraduate and graduate levels. It is located on an expansive and ecologically diverse 2,500-hectare site in Tswapong Hills, South East of Palapye in Botswana.
Providing classrooms, laboratories, auditoriums, offices and social spaces for thousands of students, BIUST is one of the leading education institutions in Southern Africa. The design of the campus and its facilities encourages collaboration which is critical for scientific and research breakthroughs.
Materials and finishes were selected for their high-performance characteristics suitable for Botswana’s semi-arid climate.
Witbank District Hospital
The overall objective of the existing Witbank Tertiary Hospital project is to downgrade it to a district level hospital, by upgrading the infrastructure. The master planning of the existing hospital involves refurbishment works, alterations and additions to already existing buildings on the site, as well as new buildings.
The hospital currently takes on a linear organization with the mine hospital corridor at the near center of it. Most of the various hospital units have been organized and linked to the main hospital corridor. A few units however are stand-alone within the hospital site, for example the laboratory.
The master planning of the Witbank district Hospital is centered on the continuity of hospital operations while new buildings are being built and refurbishment works are on going.
COMESA
Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) commissioned Tectura Group to design and construct its new Administrative Headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia. The proposed structure comprises a high-rise building of various zones totaling an area of 18,000 square meters.
The building is designed and detailed in the African Post-Modernist style with references drawn from traditional forms as well. Glazed surfaces are protected from excessive heat gain through use of both vertical and horizontal sun-shading devices in line with best-practice sustainability design. The curved entrance foyer invites visitors, delegates and officials into the heart of the building where it has been fitted with a warm and modern interior.
